Founded 1891. Named for Col. Thomas S. Lubbock, Texas Republic soldier and Civil War hero. Incorporated 1909. Commercial-marketing-processing heart of a mechanized-irrigated cotton, grain and cattle area. Home of Texas Tech, Lubbock Christian College, West Texas Museum, Mackenzie State Park.
