Sources and Credits

Every marker title, inscription, date, and location on this site comes from the Texas Historical Commission's Historic Sites Atlas, from the Atlas data downloads dated January 10, 2026. Each marker page links to its own Atlas record, which is the official version.

Texian Trail is an independent guide built by RFT Media. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Texas Historical Commission.

How Markers Are Placed on the Map

Locations come from the Atlas marker map file, and from the coordinates in the Atlas marker records where the map file has none. 15,872 of the 17,366 markers have a location. The other 1,494 still have pages, without a map.

Distances to nearby markers are straight-line miles. A marker may have moved since the Atlas recorded it, and a few hundred records place a marker more than a mile from where another Atlas source puts it, so use the location description on each page when you go looking.

Missing Markers and Missing Text

The Atlas lists 300 markers as missing. Their pages say so and keep the inscription from the record. 1,679 records have no inscription text at all.

Reporting an Error

The Atlas record is the source, so report errors there: open the marker's Atlas record from its page here and use the Atlas error report. Corrections show up here when we refresh from the Atlas.
